BOQUETE COMMUNITY PLAYERS

10 05 2009

Two weeks ago we attended the show. What a surprise for us and the talent these performers have is incredible. I am looking forward to the next performance in July.

THIS REVIEW WAS WRITEN BY THE STAFF OF THE BAJAREQUE TIMES. The journalistic professionalism is appreciated and is making this post much easier for me.

This new musical play was presented by “The Boquete Community Players”.

The Fabulous 50′s show, was directed by Donna O’Tool, featuring live musicians that included GuariGuari owners Gordon and Richelle Brown, Rhody Edwards, Bill Streit and Rich Cacianti. Cacianti opened the show with an appropriate rocker – “Rock around the clock” and later backed it up with another great rock n roll classic “ Great balls of fire”. Later in the show, Richelle Brown sang “Misty” to a pin drop mesmerized room that erupted in applause at the end.

Local singing sensations, The Boquettes, (Erin Ross, Jeanie Miller, Lane Suarez, Mary Loyd and Char Pierce) showcased their new car-hop outfits, complete with serving trays and featuring ever more tightening vocal harmonies. The cast was large and diverse ranging in ages from 15 to 90 and covered music from Elvis to Bobby Darin and everything in between.

Interspersed with the 30 or so musical numbers were short skits of 50′s shows like “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show” played by the real husband and wife team of Jim and Shirley Maffit, and the short lived radio show turned TV, “The Bickersons”, featuring Dave Ross as Don Ameche and Mary Feldbruegge as Frances Langford.

The director, O’Tool appeared as Marilyn Monroe complete with pink evening gown singing “Diamonds are a girls best friend” from the 1953 movie “Gentlemen prefer blonds”. She also gave a convincing performance as Martha Rae.

The set was well lit and basic but adjustable as in the case of the “water” cleverly used in “Yellow polka dot bikini”’ sung by Yella Werder and Dana Applegate while Pam Panratz played the shy girl’ and, “Running bear” sung by Marly Loyd with Dana Applegate and Julian Bonfiglio.

Aris is  wanting to know where I am? Tonight she is impatient and nervous. She  thinks she was ready before me but I sneaked up to take this photo.
